ABSTRACT Medicinal plants often form an important constituent of many formulations used by the folk medical practitioners. Tiliacora acuminata of Menispermaceae family is such a medicinal plant largely available in India. It is considered as an ingredient in many of the ayurvedic preparations. It is also regarded as an antidote for snake bite. As most parts of the plant have various pharmacological actions, this plant is known to be a wonder plant. The objective of this review is to understand the extend of phytochemical and pharmacological evaluations carried out on this plant. Key words: Menispermaceae, Krsnavetra, Antibacterial, Tiliasine

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail bed or nail plate that accounts for approximately 50% of all nail diseases and is the most common disorder in adults. Onychomycosis though rarely life threatening, they can be very painful, discomfortable and disfiguring for the sufferer and may produce serious physical and occupational limitations, psychological and emotional effects, and affect quality of life. Deformed nails can lead to surrounding tissue damage and may promote secondary bacterial infection. The objective of the present work was to formulate a medicated antifungal nail lacquer containing itraconazole for the treatment of Onychomycosis. In the present study, nail lacquer containing a permeation enhancer salicylic acid and release extender ethyl cellulose in different concentration are tried out and comparison of extent of drug permeation has been done among the same. Then, the formulated nail lacquers were compared for physical appearance, drying time, nonvolatile content, gloss, water resistance, drug content, drug diffusion and anti -microbial studies. Key words: Onychomycosis, Itraconazole, nail lacquer

A simple and selective LC method is described for the determination of Lumefantrine and Artemether in tablet dosage forms. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a c18 column using mobile phase consisting of a mixture of Phosphate buffer (KH2PO4) Ph3.5: Methanol (30:70v/v),with detection of 238 nm. Linearity was observed in the range 16-24 μg /ml for Artemether (r2 =0.995) and 72-168μg /ml for Lumefantrine (r2 =0.997) for the amount of drugs estimated by the proposed methods was in good agreement with the label claim The proposed methods were validated. The accuracy of the methods was assessed by recovery studies at three different levels. Recovery experiments indicated the absence of interference from commonly encountered pharmaceutical additives. The method was found to be precise as indicated by the repeatability analysis, showing %RSD less than 2. All statistical data proves validity of the methods and can be used for routine analysis of pharmaceutical dosage form. Key Words: Lumefantrine, Artemether, RP HPLC method

A reverse phase-liquid chromatographic method with UV detection at 225nm is described for simultaneous determination of Alprazolam and Sertaline. Chromatographic separation of the three drugs was achieved on an inertsil column, C18 (150x4.6 ID) 5μm column using a mobile phase consisting of a mixture of Ammonium Acetate buffer (pH 3.5): ACN: ACN in a ratio of 30:70. The liquid chromatographic method developed offers symmetric peak shape, good resolution, and reasonable retention time for both drugs. Linearity was found to be acceptable over the concentration ranges 1-3μg/ml for Alprazolam and 100-300μg/ml Sertaline. Accuracy was found to be acceptable over the concentration ranges 1-3μg/ml for Alprazolam and 100-300μg/ml Sertaline. The liquid chromatographic method was successfully applied to the quality control of formulated products containing Alprazolam and Sertaline. Key Words: Alprazolam, Sertaline, reverse phase-liquid chromatographic method

Aim is to develop a new RP-HPLC method for the estimation of Diacerein in pharmaceutical dosage form. Linearity was observed in the range 20-120 μg /ml for Diacerein (r2 =0.996) for the amount of drugs estimated by the proposed methods was in good agreement with the label claim. The above results reveal that method is linear. The sample recoveries in all formulations were in good agreement with their respective label claims and they suggested non-interference of formulation excipients in the estimation.ï€ Key Words: Diacerein, pharmaceutical dosage form, RP-HPLC method

To investigate the anti Hyperlipidemic activity of methanol extract of Desmostachya bipinnata on Triton x 100 and High Fat Diet induced Hyperlipidemia in male Wistar rats. In this model of Hyperlipidemia, 30 adult male wistar rats (150-200gms) were evenly divided into 5 groups in both groups. Group-1 and Group-2 served as untreated and model controls respectively, while Group-3, 4 and 5 were the treatments groups which were simultaneously treated with standard, 200 and 400 mg/kg extract respectively along with High Fat Diet and Triton x 100. On last day, blood samples for biochemical parameters, were obtained under inhaled diether anaesthesia. HFD and Triton x 100 treatment caused Hyperlipidemia as evidenced by marked elevation in Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL, VLDL and decrease in HDL levels. Co-administration of extract with HFD and Triton x 100 decreased rise Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL, VLDL and increase in HDL levels. It was observed that the methanol extract of Desmostachya bipinnata conferred Anti- Hyperlipidemia activity by biochemical observation against HFD and Triton-x-100 induced Hyperlipidemia in rats. In the near future could constitute a lead to discovery of a novel drug for treatment of drug induced Hyperlipidemia Key words: Desmostachya bipinnata, Anti- Hyperlipidemia activity, methanol extract

An attempt was made to know the activity of Thespesia populnea leaves against the dandruff causing organism Malassezia furfur. Thespesia populnea leaves were collected and their powered extracts were used for the activity studies. The antidandruff activity of Thespesia populnea leaf extract using agar well diffusion method was carried out. Sensitivity of the organism to herbal shampoo containing leaf extract was also studied. Herbal shampoo formulation was prepared using Sodium lauryl sulphate as foaming agent of concentrations 1 to 20%. Test parameters for shampoo like appearance, pH, and foaming ability, solid content, viscosity, surface tension and stability test was evaluated. The formulation, F3 with 5% Sodium lauryl sulphate was selected, based on its evaluation parameters. The results of this study showed that Thespesia populnea extracts and its shampoo had antidandruff activity. The concentration chosen was 30% extract because in that concentration the value of the resistor area is still categorized well. The stability test results stated that all the formulas were stable even after 30 days of stability studies. Key words: Thespesia populnea, Malassezia furfur, herbal shampoo, Anti-dandruff activity
